Logitech's Premium USB Headset 350 Review

Product: Premium USB Headset 350
Maker: Logitech
Price: USD 49.99

The Premium USB Headset 350 was designed, in the words of Logitech, as follows: "Featuring plush ear pads and a quality headband, it lets you listen to your music, games, and conversations in total comfort for hours on end. The plug-and-play USB connection and soft-touch in-line volume and mute controls deliver convenience and simplicity. The noise-canceling microphone filters out unwanted background noise for improved performance. And when you just want to use the headphones, move the boom out of the way and immerse yourself in full, rich sound from 40mm neodymium drivers."

I think this is an excellent summary of this headset's positive aspects. It was very easy to install (just the basic plug and play method). The headset is very light, and offers excellent sound quality. The microphone provides quality recording even when my dog or family was barking in the back ground.

The problem is the downsides. My biggest complaint is the so called volume control button that you somehow have to push in one direction or another to get the volume to go up or down. It should be noted that I've been using this product for about five days and have yet to get the volume to work how I want it to. This volume control is actually worse than the dot control on their Precision PC Gaming Headset, which was so small you couldn't even really turn it with out pushing it with your fingernail.

The user manual, while multi-lingual, is so simplistic that it's not even worth reading. It also has no information on that dreaded mute/volume button, besides just pointing out where it is. The manual isn't very consistent either with how it's presented. Sometimes when listing steps, for example, it displays the languages one on top of another; then in other cases it creates a separate box for the same instructions. I can't help but think that they created the manual size and then inserted the instructions.

My only other complaints are that the headphones sit too lightly on your head. Personally I prefer headphones that engulf my ears, not just daintily sit on top of them. The headphones also don't offer anything stylishly new. It looks exactly the same as any other headset you would buy, and it's just as boring.

For the people that actually care:

Technical
•Frequency response:
Headset: 20-20,000 Hz
Microphone: 100-16,000 Hz
•Microphone Sensitivity:
-58 dBV/µBar
-38 dBV/Pa 4dB

Summary:
•Greats:
-Good quality sound both Headset and Microphone
-Simple to use
-Doesn't hurt your ears

•Breaks:
-Volume control is a disaster
-You can't tell with out looking whether your microphone is muted
-Nothing innovated
-Over Priced

Special thanks to Mythlogic for allowing me to test and review this product.

I don't like the Logitech headset - it is VERY uncomfortable after a bit of time (over 15 minutes) and the muting/volume control is confusing.

I like the Plantronics USB line. I've got a DSP400 - very comfortable, sounds great, and theres a bright red light when muted. The only thing I don't like about the 400 is that it is foldable, so it feels fragile and kinda floppy and I never travel with it, so I don't need it to fold. I've used a DSP500 as well and highly recommend either.

A USB headset is a MUST for anybody doing VoIP or podcasting.
